Jordan Vauvert Après un Andreyev's "Lazarus" explosif qui se présentait comme une fracture dans laquelle on pouvait contempler les abysses, Adam Kalmbach revient sur des sonorités plus accessibles dans Volplane. Partant sur de la musique électronique ambiante, il crée un ensemble plus aérien. La musique se fait parfois balbutiements (les glitches de "Yestreen"), d'autres fois elle se déploie de manière plus franche. L'espace y est bizarre mais paradoxalement paisible. Un album intéressant et agréable. Favorite track: Volplane.

Notes:
"Yestreen" and "Rutilant" are studies in accumulation: several ostinati of different lengths, with pitches and dynamics determined aleatorically, are voiced by a single instrument and interact polymetrically to simultaneities and melodies. "Zoea" is a pyramidically-structured mensuration canon on a generated percussion sequence. "Textpath" and "Volplane" are built from ostinati that gradually transform timbrally, melodically and rhythmically.

This is a difficult album to even begin to write about. I wouldn’t say there are many albums I enjoy more than tyrant, regardless of genre. Every song on here is so massive and so crushing and yet so serene and beautiful too.
